“The act of writing is generally thought to be a solitary journey…. However, the fact that most authors offer acknowledgments speaks to the presence of a team in the background, offering advice, support, information, a shoulder to cry on, or someone to share a laugh with. The team is ofen a blend of new contacts and old friends…. “——Jacqueline Winspear
I am writing a novel and I could use some help. When the first four chapters are done in first draft form, I would appreciate it if people would give me information, opinions, critiques, advice, suggestions, complaints. I will especially need help with adding some humor (not too much), rounding out some characters, phrasing things better and some information about equipment and attitudes and words and phrases used during World War II, information on Oxford and other things that come up that I am not an expert on. Also check to see if I got any facts wrong. And then there are some scenes that I don’t have right.
No one likes to be told that they are doing something wrong, but all my websites (see list on the right under the blogroll) have been made better by the help of my viewers and I also offer Gold Stars to acknowledge the help of those who allow my mistakes to be caught early instead of later. Anyone who turns out to help a lot, I am ready to offer major acknowledgments to.
I have no idea if there are people out there who would like to help edit a novel. And if there are such people as might find it fun and if they would be inspired to help with this particular novel, I would appreciate it. I’m hoping some might find it interesting.
I probably will have too many typos to list everyone who sends me notification of just one (but I will try). I would expect to acknowledged everyone who helped with a fact or a character or dialogue no matter what format this story ever moves to.
The reader completes the book whenever he/she reads it. In this case I was hoping to get feedback on what readers are seeing before I have a final version - and I may never have a final version.
